Bangladesh capable of producing skilled chefs, says Nepal ambassador

Bangladesh has attained standards of producing skilled professional chefs who, by working abroad, can contribute to the national GDP through sending remittance, Nepal Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr Banshidhar Mishra said.

He made the remarks at a certificate giving ceremony as the chief guest held on Sunday at the Nepal Embassy in Dhaka.

The programme was organised by the ICI International Culinary Institute, Dhaka.

Tourism industry in Bangladesh has immense potential, he commented.

The Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) and LCCI GQ Nepal are the collaborating partners of this one-year long Diploma Graduation Course.     

 Dr Mishra also insisted that the scope of international tourism as well as domestic tourism has been increasing.

To meet the demand, ICI- International Culinary institute has introduced a diploma course in Bangladesh aiming to produce world-class chefs.

LCCI-Nepal's Founder and Director Roshan Rathi said remittances are one of the sources of Bangladesh's economy. Chefs of Bangladesh are working in various reputed hotels and restaurants abroad and sending foreign currencies.

Daniel C Gomez, Bangladesh's first master chef and founder of ICI said, they are working to strengthen Bangladesh's culinary industry. He said big hotels and restaurants have sprung up in different cities. Many of the international five star chain hotels have now expanded their businesses in Bangladesh.

ICI Training Director Jahangir Alam informed that the course has been approved by  the Bangladesh Technical Education Board.

Two batches of students are being admitted every year who are being imparted hands-on training on English for culinary arts, food and beverage production and preparation, food and beverage services, bakery and pastry, food carving, ice carving, etc.

A total of 17 graduates received certificates on Sunday and 22 new students received welcome letters.  Crests were handed over to guests including course teachers.
