Confirmed cases of coronavirus infection in Bangladesh reached 218,658 on Friday, a rise of 2,548 from the previous day, while related deaths increased by 35 to 2,836; according to data released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Additional Director General (Admin) of DGHS Dr Nasima Sultana presented the latest figures while briefing the media live on the daily Covid-19 bulletin at 2:30pm today.
The fresh coronavirus infections were found after testing 12,027 samples across the country, she said.
Among the newly deceased, 28 were male and the rest were female.
Also, 1,768 more patients have recovered from the disease during the 24-hour period, bringing the total number of recoveries to 120,976.
Globally, 15,666,840 people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 636,789 people died as of Friday noon, according to the Worldometer.
Of the infected, 5,475,161 are currently being treated with 66,182 remain in serious or critical condition.
So far, 9,554,890 people have recovered.
