Bangladesh witnessed 35 more deaths from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours to 8:00am on Wednesday, pushing the death count to 5,440 in the country since the first virus death was registered on March 18 last, according to official data.

Besides, some 1,520 fresh infections were also logged during the period, bringing the total cases to 373,151, according to a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

As many as 1,798 coronavirus patients made recovery during the 24-hour period, the release added, saying that the total number of recoveries now stands at 286,631.

The recovery rate rose to 76.81 per cent while the death rate stood at 1.46 per cent, it reads.

Of the deceased, 25 were men and 10 women. 34 among them died at different hospitals while one succummed to the respiratory disease at home.

The country tested a total of 13,032 samples in its 109 authorised labs during the period, taking the total number to over 2.0 million, according to the DGHS release.
