Bangabandhu’s January 10 speech a guideline for independent state, PM says

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman gave all necessary guidelines to run an independent state in his speech after returning to Bangladesh on January 10, 1972.

“The January 10, 1972, speech of Bangabandhu at the Racecourse Maidan after his return to the country from Pakistani captivity has all the required guidelines to run an independent state. There was no written speech in his (Bangabandu’s) hand. Whatever he said he uttered from his heart,” she said.

The prime minister came up with the statement while addressing a virtual discussion on Sunday marking the historic Homecoming Day of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. She joined the programme from Ganabhaban, report BSS and UNB.

The Awami League organised the meeting at its central office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital.

Bangabandhu, the undisputed leader of the nation and supreme commander of the country’s Liberation War, returned to the sacred soil of independent Bangladesh On January 10 in 1972 from London after 290 days of captivity in Pakistan jail.

The prime minister called upon all her party leaders and activists, particularly the new generation, to rehear the speech of January 10 alongside the Historic March 7, 1971, address of Bangabandhu.

In this connection, she said, “You will get everything by rehearing the speeches such as getting inspiration in doing politics.”

Sheikh Hasina said that as the anti-liberation and defeated forces tried to foil the independence of Bangladesh and they killed Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

"That was not the end, they kept generations after generations far from the ideologies of the Liberation War, they deprived them of knowing the real history of the country," she said.

The Awami League president also said the vested quarters who tried to foil Bangladesh's independence have now failed.

She vowed to further advance the country maintaining its achievements as an independent country and dignity.

The Prime Minister said that the main aim of the party is to ensure welfare of the nation for which Bangabandhu sacrificed his life, and provide beautiful life to people.

"This is our aim and we are working keeping that aim in our mind," she said.

She mentioned various plans of the government including Vision 2021, Vision 2041 and Delta Plan 2100 and said that these have to be implemented for advancing the country.

The prime minister simultaneously urged all to follow the health guidelines, including wearing masks and sanitising hands, to protect themselves and thus others from the coronavirus.

She also reminded all that Bangladesh was badly affected by the virus in March last year and this may repeat as the month of March this year.

Noting that her government has taken all the measures to bring coronavirus vaccines she said, “The vaccine will come, InshaAllah. Despite the fact, we have to properly follow the health guidelines as we have been able to control the Covid-19 by maintaining the guidelines.”

The premier also suggested taking foods that contain Vitamin C and D and other necessary items to boost the immune system to fight the Coronavirus.
