The government has planned to provide Baishakhi and Victory Day allowances for freedom fighters from the next fiscal year.

"Boishakhi allowances and the Victory Day allowances will be provided to freedom fighters from the next fiscal year," said Finance Minister AMA Muhith while placing the national budget for 2018-19 fiscal on Thursday.

He said construction of Muktijoddha Complexes is underway at district and upazila levels across the country for the improvement of the socio-economic status of freedom fighters.

Of them, construction works on complexes in 57 districts have already been completed.

"We've taken initiatives to provide free medical treatment to freedom fighters in all government hospitals and 16 specialised hospitals in the country," he added.

Under "the construction of homes for the landless and destitute or insolvent freedom fighters" project, the construction work on 2,852 units has been completed while additional 119 units are under construction, he added.

A project titled 'multi-storied building construction' has been taken up for providing accommodation facility to 8000 insolvent freedom fighters.

The minister said a draft law titled "Bangladesh Muktijoddha Kalyan Trust Act, 2018" has been formulated for the welfare of all civil, military, martyred, titled and wounded freedom fighters through the 'Freedom Fighters Welfare Trust'.

He said the government has taken steps to build a memorial for the martyrs of the Allied Forces ('Mitra Bahini') during the War of Liberation.

"In order to make our new generation familiar with the true history of liberation war and in still the spirit of liberation war among them, liberation war museums-cum libraries are being constructed in all district or upazila Muktijoddha Complex buildings," the minister said, reports UNB.
