A polling officer, injured in the March 18 gun attack in Baghaichhari Upazila of Rangamati, has died at Dhaka's Combined Military Hospital (CMH).
The death toll from the attack rose to eight after Niru Bikash Chakma, office assistant of Baghaichhari High School, succumbed to his injuries at around 11:15pm on Monday, said MA Mozur, officer-in-charge of Baghachhari Police Station.
Niru was initially taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital and then shifted to CMH after his condition worsened, according to a UNB report Tuesday.
Seven people were killed and 24 wounded on the day after a motorcade of election officials and law enforcers came under attack by gunmen.
The officials were returning from three centres in Sajek after voting in the second phase of upazila elections.
