Ayesha Khanam, president of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, passes away

Bangladesh Mahila Parishad President Ayesha Khanam, also a freedom fighter, has passed away in the early hours of Saturday.

“We are deeply saddened to announce that Bangladesh Mahila Parishad President Ayesha Khanam, a heroic freedom fighter, has died in the early hours of January 02, 2020,” the Parishad said in a statement.

She was an active organiser of all progressive movements including the student movement of 1962, the mass uprising of 1969 and the Liberation War.

Ms Khanam had dedicated herself to ensuring the rights of disenfranchised women since completing her student life.

“In her death, Bangladesh women’s movement lost a guardian,” the Parishad said in the statement.

Ms Khanam, according to the Parishad statement, will be laid to rest at his village in Netrokona.
