Attempt to board moving train: DU student loses legs

A Dhaka University student has lost his both legs in an accident while trying to board a moving train in Sirajganj.

The DU student, Shafiqul Islam Shanto (22), has been transferred to Dhaka for treatment.

Railway Police Sub-Inspector Zakir Hossain said the accident was reported at the Shaheed M Mansur Ali Railway Station in Sirajganj on Monday.

The student of Dhaka University’s mathematics department came to the station to catch a train from his home in Sirajganj, the railway police official said.

"The student slipped while trying to board the moving Sirajganj express train," he said.

Locals rushed him to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital, from where doctors transferred him to Dhaka’s National Institute of Traumatology & Orthopaedic Rehabilitation, according to bdnews24.com.

“His legs were crushed but have not been severed from the body,” Shamimul Islam, said a doctor at Sirajganj Sadar Hospital.

“He has suffered massive blood loss. We administered first aid and sent him to Dhaka,” the doctors added.
