Inspector General of Police (IGP) Javed Patwari has expressed determination to find out the culprits behind the attack on noted writer Prof Zafar Iqbal.
"We have started investigation... Although we could not interrogate the arrestee Faizur due to his illness, we will find out the culprits behind the attack," he said.
The IGP came up with the information while addressing a programme at Jagannath University on Monday.
Talking about detained Faizur Rahman, the IGP said, he has been personally influenced by the fanaticism.
He also urged the people from all walks of life to come forward to root out militancy from the country.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia was also present at the programme.
He said, the attack on Zafar Iqbal was not carried out by an organised militant group.
"We have already destroyed the organised militant network. There is nothing to be worried," he said.
Prof Zafar Iqbal came under attack at Mukta Mancha of SUST during the two-day celebration programme, 'Robofight,' of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) department on Saturday.
