Unnamed assailants have hacked a female journalist to death at her home in Pabna.

They swooped on Suborna Nodi, 32, when she answered the door at Radhanagar Majumdarparha in the town around 10:45 pm on Tuesday, police and local journalists said quoting witnesses.

She was the Pabna correspondent of private channel Ananda TV and the Daily Jagroto Bangla newspaper.

“Some unidentified men rang the doorbell. They fled after hacking her indiscriminately when she opened the door,” Pabna Additional Superintendent of Police Ibne Mizan said.

The mother of a 9-year-old girl died on the way when locals were taking her to a hospital, he added.

Police have no lead on the motive behind the murder, Additional SP Gautam Kumar Biswas said.

Their units were working to find the killers, he said.

Witnesses said the assailants were around 10 to 12 in number and came riding motorcycles, according to Pabna Reporters Unity General Secretary Kazi Babla, bdnews24 reported.

Suborna and her husband ‘Rajib’, a businessman’s son, recently separated and a legal battle over the divorce was under way, locals said.

Journalists in Pabna have condemned the killing of Suborna and demanded that the murderers be immediately brought to justice.
