The father of Aritry Adhikary has accused Viqarunnisa Noon School and College Principal Nazneen Ferdous and two others of instigating the grade-nine student to take her own life.
Dilip Adhikary started a case against Nazneen, morning shift headmistress Zinnat Ara and class teacher Hasna Hena at Paltan Police Station on Tuesday night, Aritry’s cousin Barrister Saumitra Sarder said, reports bdnews24.
“He has brought charges of instigating suicide against them,” Mishu Biswas, an assistant commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, informed.
Aritry’s body was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her room locked from inside in their home in Dhaka’s Shantinagar on Monday afternoon, Saumitra had earlier said.
Aritry died by suicide after Nazneen insulted her and her parents because she had allegedly cheated in an exam, according to Saumitra.
College Principal Nazneen said she had heard about the case.
Nazneen had earlier refuted the allegation of insulting the parents of the student.
Aritry was barred from an exam on Sunday after she was found to be cheating by using a mobile phone, according to Nazneen.
“We called her parents only to inform them about the incident. They were not insulted,” she had said.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Viqarunnisa authorities suspended Zinnat amid public anger over Aritry’s death as it turned the spotlight on the controversial handling of students by one of the top schools in Bangladesh.
The death has sparked fury on the social media as hundreds of students and their guardians gathered on Bailey Road in front of the school on Tuesday to demand justice.
The government and the Viqarunnisa authorities set up two panels with a three-day deadline to turn in investigation reports over the incident.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid visited the institution and promised action against those responsible for the death of the student after investigation.
After hearing a writ petition over Aritry’s death, the High Court formed a five-member committee headed by the additional education secretary to design a national policy on the prevention of deaths by suicide among students.
