Application deadline nears, MNOs still bargaining 4G price

The mobile network operators (MNOs) are still discussing some issues as part of bargaining with telecom authorities over reduction in price as 4G application deadline knocks at the door.

Secretary General M Nurul Kabir of the Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB) came up with the revelation on Saturday.

He said, "They (the MNOs) are reviewing the guidelines and discussing on some queries as issues pertaining to business are involved here."

The deadline for submission of application is Sunday (January 14, 2018).

Mr Kabir, however, said he’s optimistic but "everything would be cleared by the next day (Sunday)".

Country’s telecom regulator Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) in the first week of December announced the 4G/LTE licensing guidelines and spectrum auction roadmap after getting the final nod from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Officials as per the spectrum action roadmap said the BTRC invited application from the MNOs on December 4 and set the date for submission.

The regulator will publish the list of qualified applicants for the auction on January 25 while consultation on auction procedure is expected on January 29.

Moreover, date for submission of bid over the earnest money is February 5 while the letter of acceptance/rejection to participate in the bidding is February 7 with the mock auction scheduled on February 13.

The BTRC will announce the name of winning operators on February 14, reports BSS.
