The High Court on Thursday granted bail to the three owners of the Apan Jewellers-- Dildar Ahmed Selim, Gulzar Ahmed and Azad Ahmed-- in three cases out of five filed against them.

The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim granted the bail after hearing separate rules in the cases filed over money laundering and income of illegal wealth. The hearing ended on Wednesday.

Now, there is no legal bar to Gulzar and Azad's release from jail, said Attorney General Mahbubey Alam.

He, however, said Dilder will not be released as he has two bail petitions in two other cases for hearing.

Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) on August 12 sued three owners of ApanJewellers on the charge of money laundering in importing around 15 maunds of gold.

Three separate cases were filed with Dhanmondi, Ramna and Uttara police stations while two additional cases were lodged with Gulshan Police Station in this connection.

According to the statements of the cases, owners of the much-talked-about ApanJewellers imported around 15 mounds of gold and diamonds by “escaping tax”.
