Anti-VC teachers observe two-hr strike at JU

A faction of pro-Awami League teachers of Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Wednesday observed a two-hour strike, demanding action against the teachers who allegedly assaulted their fellows on April 18.

Over 50 teachers took position in front of the JU Vice Chancellor's office about at 11:00am and staged a sit-in programme until 1:00pm halting all the administrative activities of the university.

The teachers also protested 'violation of the University Act by VC Prof Farzana' Islam and demanded immediate removal of the university's proctorial body.

Prof Farid Ahmed said, "Our colleagues have been assaulted by VC-backed teachers. We demand immediate punishment of the teachers who assaulted our colleagues."

The next programme will be announced through a press conference on Thursday at12:00pm, he said.

Earlier on April 18, six anti-VC teachers were allegedly assaulted by some VC-backed teachers at JU when they were observing daylong blockade to protest the irregularities by JU VC, reports UNB.
