Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda has said all voters will get smart national identity cards by December-January.
"We'll try to provide the cards to all citizens (voters) by next December-January," he said while inaugurating the distribution of smart NID card in Bhola through videoconferencing from Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital's Agargaon area on Wednesday.
The CEC said smart national identity card is a modern technology-based document. It can be called a very important personal document for Bangladesh, he added.
Four other election commissioners, the EC secretary and its additional secretary and NID wing Director General inaugurated the distribution of the smart cards in seven other districts through videoconferencing from the Nirbachan Bhaban.
On Thursday, the Election Commission will start the distribution of the smart cards in 19 other districts, reports UNB.
