AL-backed panel sweeps Bar Council polls

The ruling Awami League-backed panel Sammilito Ainjibi Samonnay Parishad has won a landslide victory in the Bangladesh Bar Council elections.

They bagged 10 out of 14 executive posts in the elections of the licensing and regulatory body of the lawyers in the country, according to official results.

The AL-backed winning candidates are Syed Rezaur Rahman, Muklesur Rahman Badal, Md Robiul Alam Budu, Sayeed Ahmed Raja, Abdul Baten, Md Jalal Uddin Khan, AFM Ruhul Anam Chowdhury Mintu, Anis Uddin Ahmed Shahid, Md Ekramul Haque and Abdur Rahman.

The BNP-backed winning candidates are Zainul Abedin, AM Mahbub Uddin Khokan, Ruhul Quddus Kazal and Advocate ASM Badrul Anwar.

Bangladesh Bar Council Chairman and Attorney General AM Amin Uddin announced the results after a long counting, on Saturday night

Advocate Sayeed Ahmed Raja, a candidate from Sammilito Ainjibi Samonnay Parishad, secured the highest 17,433 votes among the wining candidates.

The Bar council elections had taken place on May 25 from 10am to 5pm.
