Aedes larvae found in 45pc houses, says survey

A survey has found larvae of Aedes mosquito in 45 per cent houses of Dhanmondi, Kalabagan, Segun Bagicha and ministers' residential area in Minto Road and Hair Road of Dhaka.

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon gave the information on Saturday about presence of Aedes larvae in the areas under Zone-1 of the corporation.

However, the presence of Aedes larvae is very small in other Zones of the DSCC, the mayor said, reports UNB.

Sayeed Khokon was addressing a programme marking inauguration of a programme titled 'Aedes mosquito larvae detection and destruction' at Kantalbagan slope in the city's Bir Uttam CR Datta road.

The DSCC has taken the initiative in a bid to fight the spread of different diseases transmitted through mosquito.

Addressing the programme, the mayor said the DSCC employees have destroyed mosquito larvae breeding ground visiting houses in every ward under the programme.

A total of 19542 houses were covered under the programme, he added.

"We have taken the programme again by giving importance to the larvae prone areas including Dhanmondi, Kalabagan, Montripara and Segunbagicha as Aedes mosquito larvae were found in one of three houses in the areas," said the mayor.

The DSCC Mayor also called upon other city corporations, municipalities and the union parishads around the capital to carry out same programmes simultaneously to destroy Aedes mosquito larvae.

Chief Executive Officer of DSCC Khan Mohammad Bilal, DSCC Secretary Md Shahabuddin Khan, Chief Health Officer Brigadier General (Dr) Sheikh Salahuddin and Chief Waste Management Officer Air Commodore Md Zahid Hossain were also present at the programme.
