Accelerated Bangladesh-China people to people contact stressed

Speakers at a programme on Friday stressed the need for accelerated people to people exchange between Bangladesh and China.

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni was the Chief Guest and the new Chinese Ambassador in Dhaka Yao Wen was the special guest in the programme organised by the Association of Bangladesh China Alumni (ABCA) to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

Dr Dipu Moni said the history of people to people contact between the two countries is much older than that of diplomatic ties.

The new Chinese Ambassador emphasised on promotion of solid and steady development of the bilateral ties between Bangladesh and China.

"Let's join hands together to strive forward with confidence and encourage and promote the solid and steady development of China Bangladesh cooperation," he said while addressing a function in the city.

"The Chinese New Year is a festival of harmony and cooperation. Harmony is deeply rooted in Chinese heritage. That's why the Chinese people, while maintaining relations with the peoples of other countries, always value harmony the most," he said.

He said the ABCA members are serving as a strong bond between the two countries that share this spirit and understanding.

The envoy said that people to people exchanges will intensify in the coming days as China has lifted Covid restrictions, which were imposed for three years.

"Due to the new policy announced by the Chinese government, travel to China will be much easier. "As a result, more air flights will be operational beginning in February," he said.

He believes that Bangladesh-China partnership cooperation has enormous potential for both countries' shared interests and is becoming more open.

Ambassador Munshi Faiz Ahmed moderated the function.
