ACC to get 1.40b to intensify fight against graft

With the government's goal to check corruption and accelerate development, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal has earmarked Tk 1.40 billion for the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in the proposed national budget for 2019-2020 fiscal year.

In the new budget placed in parliament on Thursday, the minister said, "Our government has adopted a policy of 'zero tolerance' against corruption. The number of divisional offices has been increased to 8 from 6, and the number of integrated district offices has been increased to 36 from 22 for increasing administrative capacity of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC)."

The minister proposed increasing allocation by Tk 170 million in the new budget. An amount of Tk 1.23 billion had been earmarked for the ACC in the revised budget of 2018-2019 fiscal.

He said an Intelligence Unit has been established while one platoon armed police n attached to the ACC for gearing up its activities, reports UNB.

"An web-based software will be made for proper monitoring of all activities of the commission starting from lodging complaint, investigation, filing and following up of corruption cases. "For the effective use of this software 200 officers will be trained."
