The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday summoned two members of the board of trustees of North South University (NSU) over the allegations of realising excessive fees from students, tax evasion, nepotism, and fund embezzlement.
The two accused are Mohammed Shajahan and MA Kashem, ACC deputy director (public relations) Muhammad Arif Sadeq told the FE.
The anti-graft watchdog has asked the individuals to appear before the commission's headquarters on January 02, 2022, to give their opinions about the allegations.
The ACC has sent summon notices, signed by its deputy director Mohammad Faisal, to the accused, Mr Sadeq said.
The allegations brought against them include realising excessive money from students in the name of different fees, embezzling university's fund through fixed deposit receipts (FDRs), misappropriation of funds by giving jobs to their relatives, dodging tax while buying luxury cars in the name of NSU, and enjoying unethical facilities.
The ACC on December 11 also sent a letter to the vice-chancellor of NSU to provide documents related to the allegations.
The commission launched an inquiry into the allegations last October after receiving an array of complaints of financial and other irregularities against the members of the board of trustees.
ACC deputy director Mohammad Faisal has been appointed as inquiry officer while director of special inquiry and investigation-2 Syed Iqbal Hossain has been given the responsibility for overseeing the inquiry process.
