The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday formed an investigation committee to look into the entire episode of Jaha Alam case who had been in jail for the last three years instead of the real accused in 33 corruption cases.

ACC Chairman Iqbal Mahmood said this when reporters asked about the updates of the cases at its headquarters at noon.

The chairman said a committee, headed by ACC legal wing Director Abu Hasnat Md Abdul Wadud, will investigate the whole episode, according to a UNB report.

Innocent Jaha Alam, who was in jail for the last three years instead of the real accused in 33 corruption cases, was released from jail in the wee hours of Monday following a High Court order.

He walked out from Kashimpur prison-2 at 1:00am today.

Jail Superintendent Subrata Kumar Bala said his release papers reached the jail on Sunday night. After scrutinising the papers and completing the formalities, Jaha Alam was set free.

His family members, including his brother Shananur Miah, received him outside the jail.

In an immediate reaction after his release, Jaha Alam said, "I was in jail for three years without any trial due to a mistake of the Anti-Corruption Commission."

He demanded punishment of those responsible for the incident.

His brother, Sahanur, also demanded punishment of those who are responsible for the incident  and compensation for Jaha Alam.
