The Anti-Corruption Commission has quizzed seven high officials of Petrobangla over disappearance of 144,644 tonnes of coal from the mine yard of Barapukuria Coal Mining Company Ltd (BCMCL).
ACC deputy director Shamsul Alam questioned them one by one at the commission's headquarters in the city's Segunbagicha area from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Thursday, ACC spokesperson Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee told the FE.
The officials including deputy general manager (maintenance and contact management) Md Nazmul Haque, manager (coal handling management) Shoaibur Rahman and manager (production management) Syed Masud appeared before the commission around 10:00 am.
Four others-deputy manager (maintenance and operations) Mahbub Hossain, assistant manager (production management) Md Moniruzzaman, assistant manager (coal handling management) Mahbub Rashid and manager (store) Didarul Kabir came to the ACC in between 1:30 pm and 2:00 pm.
Earlier on Monday, the commission sent two separate letters to the Petrobangla chairman, summoning 32 officials to take part in the quizzing session over coal disappearance issue.
Apart from seven officials grilled on Thursday, 25 others were asked to appear before the commission on August 28, 29 and 30.
ACC grilled former managing director of BCMCL SM Nurul Aurangzeb and general manager (surface operations) Saiful Islam on August 01.
On July 27, the BCMCL authority sued 19 former and present officials of the company including its managing director over disappearance of 144,644 tonnes of coal.
Anisur Rahman, manager (admin) of BCMCL, filed the case with Parbatipur Police Station in Dinajpur under Section 5(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947 and penal code 409.
According to the case statement, the accused were involved with the disappearance of coal worth around Tk 2.30 billion from the mine yard.
The national anti-graft authority also issued a travel ban on 21 people including BCMCL managing director Habib Uddin Ahmed and other former and present top officials.
