The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Iqbal Mahmood stressed the open market management for business friendly environment in the country.

He said, "Nowadays, the open market management is very important for the business. Any kind of illegal interference in the management will definitely hamper the entire environment of the business."

Mahmood said this on Wednesday in a meeting titled "Providing corruption-free public service for investment and business friendly environment in Bangladesh," reports BSS.

The ACC Chairman requested the businessmen not to bribe the government officers and employees for getting quicker public services.

"I request you not to bribe any government official for getting quicker public services as no bribery or speed money to this end will be tolerated anymore in the days to come," he told the businessmen.

Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) organised the view exchange meeting with leaders of different chambers at the ACC headquarters in Dhaka.

BIDA Executive Chairman Kazi Aminul Islam, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Director Hasina Nawaz, its Secretary General Faruk Ahmed, was present at the meeting.

Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) Director Selim Akhter Khan and Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) President Moazzem Hossain were also present.

The ACC chief urged the businessmen to inform the commission if any government official demands bribe for giving services.

"None of the government officials will be spared, if they get involved in taking bribes. Twenty-five government officers and employees were arrested last year over this," he said.

Mahmood assured the businessmen of taking prompt actions if any ACC official tries to harass them. He also stressed the need for a procedural development in giving hassle-free public services.

"It is necessary to develop a procedure by which the public servants will be penalized for their failure in delivering services to the businessmen in the stipulated time set by the government," he said.

"The tendency of taking bribe or speed money will be decrease if the government officials follow the guidance of the Secretariat in giving public services," the ACC chief added.
