The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) chairman has called the Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) for suggesting ways to check corruption apart from criticising government bodies only.

"The TIB is very vocal against any flaws in governance but criticising the government or its agencies cannot be the only job," Iqbal Mahmood said.

"The organisation has also scope to suggest solution to the problems," he cited on Tuesday.

Mr Mahmood said this at a meeting to 'evaluate TIB's activities and way forward' with a team of the Department for International Development at the commission headquarters here.

Geneva-based policy expert Matthias Boss led the team at the event where TIB deputy programme manager Jafar Sadiq was also present, said an ACC statement.

Apart from indentifying problems in the governance system only, Mr Mahmood said, agencies like the TIB should also find ways to overcome such problems.

However, he said, "Despite having a positive image among the public, some criticism is also heard against TIB."

He said there should be transparency in the budget, income and expenditure of private, public and foreign-funded entities operated by public funds.

Expressing that the ACC always welcomes TIB criticism about its activities, Mr Mahmood said while criticising, they should also understand the country's contemporary reality and culture.

"They should also praise government departments, organisations or politicians for good deeds. They can't be one-eyed, they must see scenes with both eyes," he observed.
