The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested Alliance Securities and Management chairman Pankaj Roy from Dhaka city in a case filed for amassing wealth illegally.

ACC Deputy Director (media) Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya said they were able to arrest him around 10:00am on Monday (today) after cordoning off his house at Dhanmandi over the night.

The arrest follows the filing of the case by ACC Assistant Director Silvia Ferdous with Paltan Police Station on Sunday, accusing Roy of holding Tk 85 million in unaccounted wealth.

According to the case documents, the broker house manager submitted an accounts statement showing his total wealth was Tk 219,385,302, of which Tk 85,041,106 was unaccounted for.

Another case accuses the Alliance Securities chairman of money laundering through hundis, a channel of sending money that has no legal basis in the country.

Stock market regulator Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission had fined Alliance Securities Tk 5 million at the start of this year for giving illegal loans to close relatives, including the wives of the chairman and the managing director.
