BOGURA, Feb 07: The absence of a concrete bridge over Iramaty Khal is causing serious setback for thousands of commuters under Dupchanchia upazila of Bogura district for a long time.
Local political leaders have made promises several times to take initiative but the sufferers were yet to see the construction of the concrete bridge, said people of the area.
The sufferers also sought assistance from the union council chairman to construct the bridge. A school student of Gobindapur High School Marium Khatun said she has to spend extra time whenever she goes to school. If the authority concerned takes immediate steps, she would be grateful, she added.
Businessman Golzar Hossain under Gobindapur union said he used to go to district headquarter for his business affairs. Like him, other businessmen were the worst sufferers due to bamboo bridge at the place, he added.
A good number people of Gobindapur, Ghuipur, Mathurapur, Shiyal, Shaarpukur and Sripur villages have been demanding a permanent concrete bridge over the Khal in Bhupur area in Gobindapur union for many years.
They build the temporary bamboo bridge every year but it get damaged and becomes very risky. The bridge gets damaged by water from the canal in monsoon every year, said the villager Abdul Hannan.
Headmaster of Gobindapur High School said there are 1,000 students in the institution. Among them some 300 students have to use the bamboo bridge every day.
He urged the authorities concerned to build a permanent bridge over the canal immediately considering the students' sufferings.
Upazila Local Government and Engineering Department Executive Engineer official said they have already sent letters to construct a concrete bridge over the canal.
