Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu has said the 9th Wage Board Award would be announced in September this year.
"It would synchronies with the five-year cycle of the earlier Wage Boards", he said.
The minister came up with the statement after the first meeting of newly-formed ninth wage board for newspaper journalists at the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) on Saturday.
"The board had talked to all stakeholders including owners, journalists and employees about it and came to the conclusion that the Wage Board should be declared in September," he said.
He also said that the economic viability of the media also came up for discussion and the information ministry would make recommendations, accordingly, to the finance ministry for a special allocation for the media in the upcoming budget.
The minister said that the issue of involving the electronic media in the Wage Board structure also came up for discussion.
"There are a number of proposals about it and the board was actively considering those," he said.
Regarding implementation of the Wage Board, he said that was a different issue and there, too, the board had received many proposals.
"They would be actively considering those, "he assured.
