9,369 Covid-19 cases, 38 deaths reported in 24 hours

Bangladesh has registered 38 deaths from the coronavirus in a day, the highest in a day since Sept 9, taking the total death toll from the disease to 28,627.

It also recorded 9,369 new Covid-19 cases in a day, taking the total caseload to 1,870,901, according to the latest government data released on Monday.

As many as 44,671 samples were tested across the country, for a positivity rate of 21.07 per cent, reports bdnews24.com.

Among the eight divisions, Dhaka recorded the highest number of cases and deaths with 6,072 infections and 16 fatalities. Chattogram recorded 1,150 cases and six deaths.

Another 9,507 people recovered from the illness nationwide, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,612,057.

The latest figures put the recovery rate at 86.16 per cent and the mortality rate at 1.54 per cent.

Globally, over 395.27 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 5.74 million have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
