864 coronavirus cases, nine deaths reported in 24 hours

Bangladesh has registered 864 new COVID-19 cases taking the total caseload to 1,942,680.

Another nine deaths from the coronavirus were recorded in a 24-hour count, with the toll from the disease rising to 29,033, according to the latest government data released on Sunday, reports bdnews24.com.

As many as 21,543 samples were tested across the country, for a positivity rate of 4.01 per cent.

Among the eight divisions, Dhaka recorded the highest number of cases and deaths, with 622 infections and five fatalities.

Another 6,264 people recovered from the illness nationwide, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,806,689.

The latest figures put the recovery rate at 93 per cent and the mortality rate at 1.49 per cent.

Globally, over 434.38 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 5.94 million have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
