68 drug peddlers held in city

The Department of Narcotic Control (DNC) in special drives across the city arrested 68 suspected drug peddlers along with a huge quantity of illegal drugs, including 88,386 pieces of contraband yaba tablets.

DNC personnel in their 15-day drives beginning from May 1 to May 15 also seized 170 kilogrammes of cannabis, 36 gram of heroin, five bottles of phensidyl, 57 pieces of ample injections, three bottles of foreign liquor, one private car, one pickup van and Taka 99,500 in cash from their possessions.

The Department of Narcotic Control filed 57 cases against the arrestees. During the special drives, the DNC mobile courts also sentenced 24 suspects to different jail terms, according to an official release issued on Monday.

DNC Deputy Director Mukul Jyoti Chakma said the special drives against drug peddlers will continue applying the highest capacity of the department to check drug trade in the country, reports BSS.
