At least 6,686 people were killed and 8,600 others were injured in road accidents across the country in 2020, according to a latest annual report revealed on Saturday.
During the period, a total of 4,891 road mishaps took place, revealed the report prepared by Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity.
Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity secretary general Mozammel Hoque Chowdhury presented the statistics at a media briefing in front of the National Press Club.
The report was prepared by monitoring the news of road accidents published in national, regional and online news portals of the country.
Some 2,039 drivers, 1,594 pedestrians, 757 transport workers, 706 students, 104 teachers, 200 members of law enforcement agencies, 918 women, 541 children, 29 journalists and 27 physicians were affected in those accidents.
Besides, 8 lawyers and 5 engineers and 144 leaders and activists of political parties and 9 freedom fighters were also victims of those accidents, as per the report.
