At least 642 people, including 517 women and 115 children, were killed in different accidents on waterways including ponds, lakes and haor in 2021, according to a government report.
The report prepared by the Department of Fire Service and Civil Defence also said a total of 150 other people were injured in the accidents including 113 men.
Total loss and damages in those incidents were estimated at Tk 1.45 million, it said.
Divers of the fire department received 887 phone calls to rescue the victims in those incidents across the country, the report added.
