A total of 58,549 cases have been filed for traffic law violations, including driving on wrong lanes, in the first three days of Special Traffic Week that was launched following students’ campaign for safer roads.
Police lodged the cases in six metropolitan cities and eight ranges and highway ranges in the country from Sunday to Tuesday, Md Quamruzzaman, additional superintendent of police at the Police Headquarters, said.
Actions were taken against 15,389 errant drivers over the last three days, he noted. Law-enforcement agencies fined traffic violators Tk 19 million and confiscated 1,870 vehicles, reports bdnews24.
Usually, police have no statistics on the daily cases filed throughout the country under the traffic law.
However, police officials said the number of daily cases in the special Traffic Week has increased several times.
Traffic Week began on Sunday with slogans: ‘Follow Traffic Rules, Cooperate with Traffic Police and Disciplined Traffic is an Emblem of a Civilised Nation.’
