500 stranded Indian nationals return home thru Benapole

BENAPOLE: About 500 Indian nationals stranded in Bangladesh due to corona virus have returned to their homeland through Benapole check post after about five months on Friday.

Immigration sources said stranded Indian men and women returned home on Thursday and Friday afternoon.

A total of 12 Bangladeshi passport passengers have also returned to the country from India on Friday. On the day, a huge crowd of passengers was seen in the check post area.

Two hundred thirty three Indian nationals returned on Thursday and 267 returned to their country on Friday.

To combat the coronavirus, the Indian government has banned all passport holders travelling to India through Benapole International Check Post.

After a long four months and twenty three days, they have started returning to India after fulfilling the conditions given by the Indian government.

The conditions for Indian nationals were to take online registration from the Indian High Commission.

And in the case of Bangladeshis, those have have taken visa after July 01, 2020 bring a covid-19 certificate.

However, with old visas, they have to bring the permission of the Indian High Commission and take the covid-19 no objection certificate.

Benapole Immigration OC Ahsan Habib said about 500 Indian nationals stranded in Bangladesh had returned home. All passengers will be able to travel to India if the conditional documents are correct, he added.
