485 children killed in Jan-Oct: Report

Child killings in Bangladesh witnessed a drastic increase in the first 10 months of this year compared to the same period of the previous year, according to a local rights body.

A total of 485 children were killed from January to October 2020, up by 89 from 396 during the same period of 2019, Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) said in a report.

At least 28 of the children were killed after rape while such cases were 37 during the same period of the previous year, the report showed.

It added that 225 cases were lodged in connection with child killings, while it was 185 during the same period of the previous year under review.

A total of 488 children were killed in 2019, whereas 364 killed in 2018, according to the rights body report.
