41pc boro paddy harvesting in haor areas completed

Some 41 per cent paddy harvesting in haor areas was completed as of April 20, according to data of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE).

Of them, 38 per cent harvesting of paddy already was completed in Kishoreganj, 73 per cent in Netrokona, 29 per cent in Brahmanbaria, 37 per cent in Sylhet, 36 per cent in Moulvibazar, 25 per cent in Habiganj, and 42 per cent in Sunamganj.

Boro paddy has been planted in 452,138 hectares of land in seven districts of the country, including Kishoreganj, Netrokona, Brahmanbaria, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Habiganj and Sunamganj, the DAE data said.

Non-haor paddy has been planted in 498,160 hectares of land in the country.

Total (haor and non-haor combined) paddy has been planted in 950,318 hectares of land.

Out of this, paddy of 9,700 hectares of land has been affected by heavy rains and floods, which is 1.0 per cent of total cultivation.

In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture is providing necessary assistance to the farmers for speedy harvesting of ripe paddy. Adequate allocation of combine harvester and reaper has been brought from other districts as well.

At present, about 1,700 combine harvesters and reapers are harvesting paddy in the haor areas, of which 1,100 combine harvesters are locals while 350 combine harvesters are taken from other districts.
