40pc public servants to get housing facilities in Dhaka

Around 40 per cent of government officers and employees will get housing facilities in Dhaka.

Housing and Public Works Minister Mosharraf Hossain said currently 8 per cent of government officials in the capital enjoy housing facilities.

"The government was working to increase the rate to 40 per cent," he added.

The minister gave the information on Wednesday while briefing the officials who recently joined the public service.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced the plan to provide housing for 40 per cent of public servants in 2016, reports bdnews24.com.

The authorities have taken a ‘masterplan’ to house around 20,000 public servants by extending the quarters at Azimpur and Motijheel, Hossain said.

A total of 1,800 families live in the government quarters at Azimpur and 2,800 at Motijheel, according to the minister.

The housing and public works ministry is more efficient than ever before, the minister claimed.

“We are constructing 20-storey residential buildings while only five to six storeys were built in the past,” he said.
