37 more die, 2772 test positive, 1801 recover: DGHS

Thirty-seven more people died from coronavirus (Covid-19) in Bangladesh in the last 24 hours till Monday, according to the statistics of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

With this, the death toll due to the deadly virus infection reached at 2,965, Additional Director General of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr. Nasima Sultana said.

Besides, 2,772 people tested positive for the virus during the same period, raising the number of such cases in the country to 2,26,225, she added.

However, some 1,801 patents have recovered from the disease bringing the total figure to 125,683.

Prof Dr. Nasima came up with the disclosure in the daily online news bulletin at the Management Information System (MIS) in the afternoon.

She said a total of 10,078 tests had been done at 81 labs across the country during the reporting period.

The new tests take the tally of diagnosis to 1,124,417 in the country, she said.

Among the deaths, 26 are male and 11 are female, Dr. Sultana said, adding that one was between 21-30 years old, one was between 31-40, seven between 41-50, seven between 51-60, twelve between 61-70, eight between 71-80, and one was between 81-90 years old.

Twenty-four were from Dhaka division, five from Chattogram, two from Khulna, three from Rangpur, two from Barisal, and one was from Mymensingh division.

Of them, forty-three died in hospitals and four died in their homes, she added.

According to the state-run Directorate General of Health Services, 58,390 people now remain in both home and institutional quarantine while 19,007 others in isolation.

On Sunday, 54 people died and 2,275 people tested positive for the highly infectious disease. 

In the continent, India tops the list of total cases with 1,437,976 cases, followed by Iran, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey until Thursday 3:08 pm, according to Worldometer data.

As per the global list, Bangladesh is following Turkey that has reported 226,100 cases so far while Columbia is one step behind the south Asian nation with 248,976 cases.

So far over 16,432,110  people have been infected globally with the deadly virus which originated in China in December last year. Of them, 652,437 people died from the virus.

Of the infected, 5,723,119 are currently being treated while 66,256 of them are in serious or critical condition, the website data shows.
