35 more virus death, 3009 fresh cases in BD

Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Wednesday reported 35 deaths and 3009 new cases from coronavirus (Covid-19) in the 24 hours to 8:00 am today, 144th day of the virus outbreak in the country.

With the latest, the country’s number of the virus infections now stands at 2,32,194 people, said the DGHS at a virtual press briefing today.

With the new deaths, the country’s total fatalities reach to 3035, according to the state-run DGHS.

Additional Director General (administration) Prof Dr Nasima Sultana said a total of 14,127 tests had been done at 82 labs across the country during the reporting period.

Among the diseased, 30 were men and 5 women, while one was between 21-30, one was between 31-40, six between 41-50, seven between 51-60, twelve between 61-70, seven between 71-80, one was between 81-90 years old, Additional Director General of the DGHS Dr Nasima Sultana said.

Of the fatalities, fourteen from Dhaka division, eight from Chattogram, two each from Khulna, Sylhet, Mymensingh, and Rajshahi divisions, and four were from Barisal division.

In total, 1458 death was recorded from Dhaka division, 739 from Chattogram, 179 from Rajshahi, 214 from Khulna, 119 from Barisal, 146 from Sylhet, 115 from Rangpur, and 65 from Mymensingh division.

Twenty-nine people died in hospital, and six in their homes in the last 24 hours, the DGHS senior official added.

Simultaneously, 2878 people recovered from the respiratory disease, bringing the overall number of recovery to 1,30,292, Dr. Nasima said.

A total of 14,127 samples were tested in 82 labs across the country during the period. With this, a total of 11, 51, 328 samples have so far been tested in the country.

On Tuesday, 35 people died and 2,960 tested positive for the highly infectious disease.

According to the DGHS, 57,244 people now remain in both home and institutional quarantine while 18,669 others in isolation.

Bangladesh reported its first case of Covid-19 on March 08 and the first death 10 days later. The country witnessed the highest single-day fatalities of 64 on June 30.

Globally, 16,917,538 people were infected with the novel coronavirus and 663,940 have died until 3:08 pm today, according to Worldometer data.

Of the infected, 5,773,920 are currently being treated while 66,463 of them are in serious or critical condition, the website data shows.
