346 Covid-19 cases, four deaths reported in 24 hours

Bangladesh has recorded 346 cases of Covid-19 in a day, taking the overall tally of infections to 2,031,797.

The death toll from the disease rose by four to 29,393 over the 24-hour period, according to the latest government data released on Friday.

As many as 4,840 samples were tested across the country, for a positivity rate of 7.15 per cent, said a bdnews24.com report citing the government data.

Among the eight divisions, Dhaka logged the highest number of cases, with 221 infections.

Another 686 people recovered from the illness nationwide, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,973,072.

The latest figures put the recovery rate at 97.11 per cent and the mortality rate at 1.45 per cent.

Globally, over 623.84 million people have been infected by the coronavirus and 6.56 million have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
