3.3m cases now pending with courts!

Country’s judiciary seems to be overburdened with logjam of cases numbering as many as 33,09,789 at present.

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq on Tuesday told parliament that the cases were pending with both the higher and lower courts across the country.

According to the statistics, 2.816 million cases are now pending with the lower courts while remaining 476,000 with the High Court division with 16,565 more with the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.

BSS said he divulged the information in reply to an unstarred question from independent lawmaker Rustum Ali Faraji (Pirojpur-3).

Some 8,93,000 cases – 6,01,000 with lower courts and 2,92,000 with the higher courts - remained pending for at least five years.

By their types, 18,40,000 are criminal cases, 13,84,000 are civil cases and 85,941 others are writ petitions.

The minister, in reply to a starred question from another independent MP Abdul Matin (Maulvibazar-2), said fraud syndicates those furnish fake arrest warrants and fake cases have been curbed to a large extent were largely declined due to different steps taken by the government.

He said the government takes action against those who are involved in entrapping people with fake arrest warrants and fake cases following investigation.
