Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Monday detained as many as 31 people, including women and children, while they were allegedly trying to sneak into India via the Jhenaidah border.
All the detainees are Bangladeshi citizens, and they have been handed over to local police, the BGB said on Tuesday.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from BGB's Maheshpur-58 Battalion raided several villages in Maheshpur along the land border with India and detained the 31 people, reports UNB citing a press release.
Among the 31, two persons were detained in Ekashipara village, three in Matila, 10 in Kanchanpur, and eight each in Karimpur Bazar and Islami Bank area of Jibonnagar.
A case has been filed at the Maheshpur police station, following a complaint by the BGB members.
