1,676 new coronavirus cases, 38 deaths reported in 24 hours

Bangladesh has reported 1,676 new cases of coronavirus infection and 38 fatalities in the last 24 hours till 8:00 am on Sunday.

With the latest figures, COVID-19 caseload has surged to 810,990 and the death toll from the disease reached 12,839, according to the latest government data, reports bdnews24.com.

The recovery count rose to 751,322 after 1,897 patients overcame the illness through treatment at home and hospital care during that time.

As many as 15,613 samples were tested across the country in the last 24 hours, yielding a positivity rate of 10.73 per cent.

The latest official figures put the recovery rate at 92.64 per cent, while the mortality rate stands at 1.58 per cent.

Globally, over 172.99 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 3.72 million have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
