Fifteen more bus companies in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur, Azimpur and Gabtoli will operate under the e-ticketing system from Tuesday in efforts to prevent extra fares from passengers.

With this, the number of bus companies operating under the e-ticketing system stands at 45 in the capital, said Khandaker Enayetullah, general secretary at Dhaka Road Transport Owners' Association, at a press conference on Monday.

The 15 bus companies to be operating under the e-ticketing system have a total of 711 buses in the city’s Mohammadpur, Azimpur and Gabtoli, he said.

As per the initiative to bring all city buses under e-ticketing system, the third-phase initiative will start on Tuesday.

Admitting that the buses where e-ticketing has been under operation are not functioning faultlessly, Mr Enayetullah said the association takes the issue into account.

The authorities introduced the e-ticketing system on a pilot basis on September 22 through eight bus companies in Mirpur.

As the e-ticketing system run on a pilot basis became successful, the Association brought all 30 bus companies in Mirpur under this system on November 13.

Mr Enayetullah said the Association is still trying to meet its target to bring all 97 companies running in and around Dhaka city by February.
