14 more intercity trains services to resume on Aug 27

Bangladesh Railway (BR) is set to resume services of 14 more intercity trains from August 27 in continuation of its plan to gradually restart all intercity trains.

With this, the state-owned train operator will be operating 43 intercity trains during the pandemic, which initially limited all public transports.

Officials said along with 14 more intercity trains, the BR is set to restart three more commuter trains and one mail train service on August 27.

Earlier, the BR resumed one commuter train service on Dhaka-Dewanganj Bazar-Dhaka route on August 16.

The BR suspended all its passenger train and goods transportation services after the government announced lock down in the country to check coronavirus spread.

It resumed 17 intercity train services in two phases on May 31 and June 3 after public transport movement was allowed on limited scale by following health guidelines.

On August 16, it resumed 12 intercity and one commuter train services.

However, officials said online ticket issuance will be continued for all trains five days before respective schedule day’s trains and limited stoppages. Stoppage of all these trains at airport, Joydevpur, Narsingdi and Bhairab Bazar stations will be kept suspended like other resumed trains to control passenger rushes.

The 18 train services to be resumed on August 27 are Paharika/Udayan on Chattogram-Sylhet-Chattogram route, Egaro Sindhur Probhati on Dhaka-Kishoreganj-Dhaka, Jamuna Express on Dhaka-Tarakandi-Dhaka, Egaro Sindhur Godhuli on Dhaka-Kishoreganj-Dhaka, Sonar Bangla Express and Chattrola Express on Chattogram-Dhaka-Chattogram, Korotoa Express on Santahar-Burimari-Santahar, Borendra Express on Rajshahi-CHilahati-Rajshahi, Silk city Express on Rajshahi-Dhaka-Rajshahi, Sagardanri Express on Khulna-Rajshahi-Khulna, Dolonchapa Express on Santahar-Dinajpur-Santahar, Dhalarchar Express on Dhalarchar-Rajshahi-Dhalarchar, Dhaka/Chattogram Mail on Chattogram-Dhaka-Chattogram, Dewanganj Commuter on Dhaka-Dewanganj Bazar-Dhaka, Balaka Commuter on Dhaka-Jharia Jhanjail-Dhaka, Bogra Commuter on Santahar-Lalmonirhat-Santahar, Rocket Express on Khulna-Parbatipur-Khulna and Chilhati Express on Parbatipur-Chilhati-Parbatipur route.

Meanwhile in a notice, BR has halted the mandatory provision to show national identification card at station to reduced passenger sufferings. Each passenger can purchase highest four tickets at a time for family members.
