Of them, some 51 are categorised as extremely accident-prone while some 63 as accident-prone, according to the report published by the Road Safety Foundation (RSF).

The organisation has identified the accident-prone areas across the country by monitoring road accident incidents published in the media over the past two years.

To this effect, the RSF also suggested removing the design and infrastructural problems of the places where accidents occur on a regular basis.

It also recommended to address the road safety issues, taking permanent measures to control the speed limit of vehicles and construction of service lanes or road dividers to stop the movement of various types of vehicles on the same road.

The reasons of the accidents in those area is stated as road design and infrastructural defects in the areas, adverse conditions surrounding the roads, lack of road safety measures (lack of sign, marking, road dividers, pre-warning direction boards and so on), lack of speed control of system, unhindered and reckless movement of different types of vehicles on the same road and lack of skills or capacity of drivers to drive in problem areas of the road and so on.

The accident-prone areas have been reported which belong to 48 districts, the RSF report said, adding that accidents are also occurring outside those areas, but not regularly.
