About 1,000 women and girls were trafficked by using information and communication technology in the last eight years.

Besides, the number of trafficked victim women was 500 in the last five years. They were trapped by using online platforms such as TikTok and Likee.

Women between the ages of 18 and 22 years were the victims of human trafficking.

Referring to media information, Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF) said this during a webinar on Saturday.

These apps are popular with young people like different kinds of funny videos are made by these technologies.

The organisation recommended initiating combined effort of relevant stakeholders to stop this crime.

It also suggested increasing awareness of government's human trafficking cells, bringing resorts in Dhaka and its adjacent areas under vigilance. Human traffickers are recruiting women and girls from trafficking parties (teams) and events at different resorts.

The information and communication technology (ICT) ministry can initiate the removal of vulgar content with the help of Goggle or Apple.

Shahana Huda, a senior coordinator of MJF, presented a powerpoint presentation on the trafficking issue while Shaheen Anam, executive director of the organisation, among others, spoke.
