Sustainable urban wash programme runs successfully in Rangpur

The Sustainable Urban Wash (SUW) programme is running successfully in Rangpur region to ensure supply of pure drinking water, hygienic sanitation and sewerage systems for 18 low-income communities in the city.

"After implementation of the programme by March 14 next year, hygienic conditions of low-income communities will be improved," said Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa while visiting SUW programme activities in Robertsonganj area on Saturday.

The RpCC jointly with Eco-Social Development Organisation (ESDO) has been implementing the programme since April 25 last year under financial assistance of the Department for International Development (DFID) through the Ukaid in the city.

During the visit, Mayor Mostafa inspected the newly built 4-room community latrine at Robertsonganj low-income community in Ward No-26 and 2-room community latrine at Hothatnagar low-income community in Ward No-28 of the city.

City Councilors Saiful Islam Fulu and Rahamatullah Babla, Project Manager of the SUW programme ATM Ruhul Islam, its Project Engineer Shafikul Islam, Community Mobilisation Officers Ruhul Hasan and Arifa Khanom accompanied the mayor.

Project Manager Ruhul Islam said the SUW programme is being implemented to ensure supply of pure drinking water, improve hygienic sanitation facilities and health practices, sewerage systems and other civic amenities for the low-income communities, reports BSS.

Expressing satisfaction over quality of the completed infrastructural development works under the SUW programme, Mayor Mostafa called upon members of the low-income communities for bringing a behavioural change to improve their health practices.
