India on Monday provided the second tranche of emergency medical supply to Bangladesh to help fight the spread of coronavirus.
Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka, Riva Ganguly Das, handed over the emergency medical supply to the concerned authorities of Bangladesh government, the High Commission said in a statement.
The medical supply includes 1000,000 Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) medicine tablets and 50,000 sterile surgical latex gloves.
Zahid Maleque, minister for Health and Family Welfare, appreciated India’s continued medical support.
“Helping hands of our neighbour at this time of distress is most welcome”, he said.
Ms Das reiterated India’s continued support to the people of Bangladesh in its fight against Covid-19.
The assistance, intended to support the efforts of Bangladesh government in tackling the spread of coronavirus, is covered from the SAARC Covid-19 Emergency Fund.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the SAARC Covid-19 Emergency Fund with an initial contribution of US$10 million from his country.
The first tranche of emergency medical assistance under this fund, containing 30,000 surgical masks and 15,000 head-cover, were handed over to the Foreign Minister Dr A K Abdul Momen on March 25.
