First-ever int'l nursing conference held in city

Bangladesh's first-ever international nursing conference titled 'Higher Nursing Education: Trends and Challenges' was held in the newly launched National Institute of Advanced Nursing Education and Research (NIANER) at Mugda in the city on Monday.

NIANER with a budget of $13.75million has been funded by Korea International Cooperation Agency (Koica) with technical support from Yonsei University College of Nursing in Korea.

The conference was attended by participants from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Directorate General of Nursing and Midwifery and NIANER along with global leaders in the field of nursing where discussions revolved around universal trends of nursing education, nursing faculties and researches in Bangladesh, and so forth.

Along with Koica, international organisations like Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Global Affairs Canada (GAC), World Health Organization (WHO) and United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) recognised the event to establish country-specific fitting strategies of nursing education.

Barbara Parfitt, a former professor of Glasgow Calendonian University, spoke on the significance of nursing education and research a day prior to the conference, reports UNB.
